THE
IMPORTANCE OF MISSION PROJECTS IN DESERT MISSION
·
By Rev Olu Sunday
Sahara Desert is still a
virgin Unreached Territory despite several Mission Movement witnessed across
the globe since the rise of Apostle Paul.
We still have several
regions that no Christian has ever been or preach Christ here in the African
Desert.
99% if not all
Christians here of 40 years above were never born in a Christian family but
Islam. Population of Christians here in Desert is not up to 10%.
The Desert we are
referring to here is; Tammanrasset Region (South Algeria), Sabha Region (south
Libya), Gao Region (north Mali) and Agadez Region (North Niger Republic).
Christianity is still
strange to many natives. Many adult Christians here have never seen any
Christian body elsewhere apart from here.
Having said this, we
need to let you also know that Relationship between Christians and native
societies and Government were very cordial especially in Agadez Region.
Christians though not
many are viewed with respect both by the authorities and their neighbors. One
factor that has made this happens is ‘Mission Projects’ embarked upon and run
by The Missionaries.
Mission projects such as
School, Bore holes, Orphanages, Medical center, Skill acquisition center e.t.c.
These projects are responsible
for the unusual open doors and rapid expansion of churches here in the Desert
and making the evangelism works easier for the local indigenous Christian
Ministers.
Jesus Christ being
Missionary engages all these as His main Mission tools to preach the kingdom
tidings to lost sheep of Israel, (His Mission Field).
Among the benefits of
the Mission Projects, let me share this few with you:
1.
IMAGE MAKER
To a Muslim who has
benefited quality education freely or highly subsidized and his Mother have been
saved from Terminal sickness by a free Medical Services of dedicated Mission
volunteers - Christians are good people.
He may know nothing
about Christianity, he might have been told not to love them, but his personal
experiences through the projects thought him otherwise, so also the
perspectives of Government Officers and community leaders that have hosted
these projects.
2.
HEART SOFTENER
The heart of a native
who have benefited from Mission Projects or that of the family members has been
plowed and fertilized awaiting the implants of the gospel seeds.
3.
INTERACTIVE PLATFORM
Through Mission
Projects, Missionaries has got a sure platform to interact with cross sections
of people he couldn’t have been able to reach, especially women and top Islamic
leaders.
Thus he is able to
counsel, teach and role model Christ life to them.
4.
SOULS HARVESTER
Through Mission
Projects, Missionary harvest souls and the local/indigenous Ministers glean
after them.
In Desert, Mission
Projects is our form of mass evangelism. The popular mass evangelism you know
does not work here.
5.
STRATEGIC PLACEMENT
The present Sultan of Agadez Who took over the throne of his father as the Islamic spiritual headquarters of the Sahel together with the present Chief Imam of Agadez are product of Mission Projects.
They and their children and now grand children from infant passed through the schools found and run by Missionaries.
Today, some of them are
by Divine Providence positioned at the gateway of the land. They were
remembering the goodness of Christ and his disciples through those projects. No
wonder then we keep enjoying open doors through them.
Recently, in collaboration with some visiting mission volunteers, a Christian evangelical crusade was held for 3 days in the Sultan palace, hosted by the Sultan. The crusade was the first Christian program ever held in such a sacred place also in the same compound with the famous ancient Agadez Mosque since they are constructed early 18 Century.
The crusade heavily
attended by the larger society witness large inflows of converts to Jesus
Christ.
Since then the
local churches have been experiencing large increase.
Again, the Governor of
Ingall and His counterpart the Governor of Tanout have just given us documents
of Land urging us to build and run School from Elementary to University.
Placing their Children and Youth on Our hands, knowing we shall surely teach
them the way of the Lord.
Conclusion
Every dollars spent on
these projects has come from you at home, your prayers and encouragements made
it happen. You supply the bricks, we mould the people and Christ inherits them.
Thank you.

us your own experience on Mission Projects too?
